Vuitton & Comme des Garçons
All About Bags September 4th, 2008
I read about the collaboration between Rei Kawakubo and Louis Vuitton months ago but just found out today that the Comme des Garçons Louis Vuitton store in Japan finally opened recently. I no longer have a lot of Vuittons in my cache of bags (am keeping subtle pieces and have let go of the screaming monogram) so I wasn’t particularly interested in acquiring any piece from this collaboration. I saw a preview photo of the bags to come out in someone’s blog and Trashbagaesthetics wrote a post on the opening replete with photos of the occasion.
As I expected, none of the bags called out for me, they were either to small or to awkwardly shaped to be of any practical use, in my opinion. There were the standard Speedies and Papillons thrown in for good measure but I’ve long outgrown those. I don’t know what it is about me but I’d rather fork over $90 for a workhorse Longchamp Le Pliage than an overpriced monogram. However, this is the same me who just a few days ago posted an deep longing for that Escada camel bag that’s priced at 850 Euros.
